An Armenian Recipe, Perfected in the Czech Republic
The MARLENKA® story began with a family recipe carried out of Armenia. In the early twentieth century, the great grandfather of founder Gevorg Avetisjan ran a small factory and shop in Constantinople, where his honey pastries became known throughout the area.
That same recipe travelled with the family for generations, passed down as a closely guarded tradition. In 2003, Gevorg and his sister settled in Frýdek Místek in the Czech Republic and started baking honey cakes using the original method. He named the cake Marlenka, after his daughter, and what began as a small family kitchen soon grew into one of Europe's most loved bakeries.
A Modern Bakery Built on an Old Tradition
As demand for MARLENKA® grew, so did the bakery. What started in a single flat expanded into purpose built premises, then into a fully modern, EU certified production facility that still operates using the same family recipe today. Along the way, the range grew beyond the original honey cake to include honey nuggets, honey rolls and other traditional Armenian inspired treats, each one made with real honey, no preservatives and no artificial colours, and proudly GMO free.
